About us
The Alkek Velodrome is a 333meter, concrete track. Its banking
ranges from 33 degrees in the turns to 9 degrees in the
straights. It was built in 1986 and has held everything from
Junior Regionals to Olympic Qualifiers.

For the past 20 years the Alkek Velodrome has been owned and
operated by the City of Houston Parks and Recreation
Department. In 2007 the city transfered the management and
operations of the Velodrome, leasing it to The Greater Houston
Cycling Foundation or GHCF.
The GHCF was created to ensure the continued operation of
programs at the Alkek Velodrome, and is a non-profit 501c(3)
corporation. The foundation will employee the management of the
Velodrome as well as oversee the continued operation of all
Alkek Velodrome programs. These programs include the Youth
Cycling League, the Adult Cycling League, Friday and Saturday
night racing, coaching of Junior and Senior racers and
fundraising activities. In the future the GHCF will promote
cycling activities throughout the Greater Houston area. For more
